Free January Worksheet for Procreate

Your free January Procreate worksheet is here! This month, you’ll find 3 beautifully flourished variations to practice, perfect for starting the new year. As always, the download includes a pressure-sensitive brush specifically designed for this style of calligraphy, along with the worksheet.

This exercise is split into 3 simple steps to guide your practice:

Step 1 introduces directional arrows to help you get comfortable with how to make the strokes that form each letter. Follow these arrows to see exactly where each stroke begins and ends. To keep it simple, I recommend starting with a brush that doesn’t respond to pressure, like the ‘HB Pencil’ from your default ‘Sketching’ set.

Step 2 brings the pressure-sensitive brush into play. You’ll practice tracing the flourishes, focusing on smooth transitions between thick and thin strokes.

Step 3 challenges you to fly solo! Skip the tracing and try creating the flourishes freehand. Don’t worry, there’s a reference example on the same page if you need a quick check-in. I encourage you to step outside your comfort zone, and trust me – you’ll be amazed by the progress you make when you practice this way! Repeating Steps 1 and 2 beforehand will set you up for success.

Download your January worksheet below and enjoy bringing these flourishes to life! Feel free to share your thoughts or questions in the comments. Missed any of the previous month name worksheets? You can find them linked at the end of this post

Practice Tips!

You’ll see when you open the worksheet in Procreate, I recommend a 3 step process to practice each variation of the word ‘January’.

Step One
Start by getting familiar with how the strokes and letters are made and when to pick up your pencil by removing the added complexity of the thick and thin strokes. So in this first example we simply trace the word using a standard Procreate brush called ‘HB Pencil’. This doesn’t have any pressure sensitive settings, so it gives the same weight to your strokes.

Step Two
Next we introduce pressure! Using the special calligraphy style brush included in your download, trace the example again, but this time apply pressure to your downstrokes. This will give you the thick and thin strokes that feature in this style.

Step Three
And finally in step three, you can take off the training wheels and try practicing on the blank row provided without tracing! I know it sounds scary at first, but it really is the way to progress your skills and move forward. And if you don’t feel ready, just repeat Step 2 a few more times by adding a blank layer above the instructions page!

Rinse and Repeat!
You can use this method for each example. And a quick Pro Tip : just create a new blank layer if you want to trace the word a few times before writing on your own. Happy Lettering!
